Clay jugs have a long tradition dating back thousands of years. Real clay carafes are not only perfect for transporting and storing food and liquids, but also naturally cool our drinks.

These handcrafted works of art are traditionally used as water carafes today, providing a purifying, filtering effect on drinking water. They also serve as a wonderful Mediterranean flower vase and decoration for the home and garden.

How does a clay jug purify and cool water?

Clay and ceramic are porous materials that allow water to flow through them, but they trap bacteria, protozoa, and sediment. Because they trap these contaminants, clay pots can be used to purify water. If you leave a full clay jug overnight, you'll notice that water is being lost; the evaporation process creates the cooling effect. The flow through the clay also positively charges the water with minerals and oxygen. Clay consists of rock and sand and is 100% natural. While glazed clay is impermeable and dishwasher-safe, the glaze on a clay jug is left on to maintain the effect.

Recommended use:

You fill your clay jug with water before family evening or a guest reception. Place the clay jug on the table as a pretty decoration and pour your guests cool, filtered, oxygenated premium water. Place a mat under the clay jug, as it is known to sweat. Our kilim rugs are perfect.

Many people also use their clay jug simply as a Mediterranean decoration or desert refrigerator for food such as dates.

Due to the material, different elevations, small holes and cracks are not a quality defect!
